We had a bad week of FREEZING weather.. I had to bring in the Hummers food every night so it wouldn't be frozen in the morning. I have found that Hummers are the LAST to go to bed at night and the FIRST to get up in the mornings, almost before the sun comes up. So I waited till it was really dark to bring it in and tried to get it out there before dawn but I didn't always make it and even tho it was still darkish out, there was this angry bird in my face hanging in mid space flapping those wings so they were almost invisible, wondering where HIS food was. :)) Sometimes even landing on the feeder as I was putting it on the hook. So I had to capture that morning fiascal in my journal and also how the Hummer would sit on the rose bush below guarding HIS food all day. :))
This is an Oil painting of a Humming bird that I did years ago and sold.
My painting hanging in the Art Center show in town.
The Reception was fun and crowded. So I only got this horrible close up photo taken by my painting.
I was in the hallway and it was close quarters here. but its in a nice spot that can be seen often and will hang until the end of February.
You can see how cramped the Hallway is. Con was checking out the Art around.
There was some nice work here. This King Salmon was done by a Friend of ours.
The photo was taken of the fish at our fish ladder in town. The Salmon come up to the window and you can get a good view of them.
He had two other wonderful paintings in the show too.
| Up close and personal here.. He is reading the tags by the paintings. |
Con checking out more paintings and the food.
I loved these Cows.
Also love this Farm scene.
The Art Center is in an OLD Red brick building that was a Hospital for the wounded in WW1
It has lots of History. It used to belong to the Veterans hospital in town but was sold to be used as the Art Center for the Umpqua Valley.
Posting this for Paint Party Friday

Congratulations for being a part of this terrific art show!! The journal page, the elegant oil painting, & the story of your sweet care of the hummingbirds have brought me a lot of enjoyment!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe art looks great at the show. Including yours of course. What fun to be a part of such an event. I hope yours sells...if you want it to. I like your journal page too. It is hard for me to believe you still have hummers. Ours have been gone for so long. It is way too cold here for them. Wintery mix predicted for here tonight. Brrrr.
ReplyDeleteThe hummers are your friends, they come to depend on you it seems and you are so good to them. I love the art journal page with its full story about this hummer life in your yard!
ReplyDeleteCongrats for being in the art show Cris! Your art looks terrific on the wall there and so do you!
Your oil of the hummer and flowers is very beautiful as well!
Happy Painting on Friday and every other day too!
Thanks for feeding the hummingbirds, even if they are a bit territorial. The painting of the bird is beautiful -- great job on the poppies, too. Thanks for posting photos of your art show, looks like a great one and what a nice place to show in. It's great to be in a historical building. I love the journal page.

Beautiful paintings, and what a lovely story! The exhibition looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to go to a community art show where you can see the work of other artists that you actually know! I've had hummingbirds on my mind too and have a couple of paintings of them in the works. They are so sweet and I love seeing them even in the winter. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteThe Community art show sounds fantastic. How neat that your painting got a spot where everyone had to pass by. The hummingbird painting above is gorgeous, Cris. Our hummers leave in October and don't return till April. Maybe they fly to Oregon but I think they really go to Central America.
ReplyDeletewhat a great show! looks like a great space.Beautiful painting! Say, do hummingbird survive in the winter and all? I always assumed all birds sort of flew south ! good to know you;re looking out for them
ReplyDeleteGreat journal sketches. I love the hummingbird painting from long ago. Congratulations on having your painting in the show. I didn't know that hummingbirds stay around in cold weather. I'm in Beaufort SC and it really doesn't get all that cold here in the winter - but the hummingbirds won't be back till mid spring (in March here). Ours must have condos in Florida! Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteLove your sketches and so pleased you included a photo of you with your painting... it is an amazing feeling seeing them hanging somewhere isn't it... and yours looks wonderful... what a great event to be part of...xx
ReplyDeleteLooks l ike it was a great show! Congratulations. Love your journal pages.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And I love those hummingbirds! So glad you're looking out for them in this frigid weather. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteGood for you entering the UVAA show!
ReplyDeleteMy hummer has been getting me up early too! He actually sips while I'm trying to get the feeder hooked. I was so glad when it warmed enough so I could sleep in! On the snowy morning I had 4 hummers .... fight! fight! fight!
Congratulations on being in the show, seems like it was a great success! :) Love your pretty journal page and fantastic humming bird painting! Very beautiful! <3

ReplyDeleteThe little humming birds are wonderful, what an addition to your garden. Do have to laugh at how demanding that one seemed to be. Your paintings are wonderful as are your sketches. It is so nice to capture the things in a journal/sketchbook like this. I hope the exhibition is very successful, it looks such a nice venue.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the hummingbirds!
ReplyDeleteI love your painting. I hope it sold! You look lovely....you are growing your hair! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe venue for the Art Show looks crowded....but still, all of the paintings are shown clearly! (I thought of Mim too when I saw the Salmon Painting!)
As for your *Hummer Story and Sketches*....ah, I loved it - loved them - and love you for that big, warm, caring heart of yours!!!!!
